Notes From the Author
Hi there. I know it has been a while since I last posted a blog entry and to you faithful followers (both of you) I am sorry.Since my birthday in Ko Samui, Thailand we have been on yet another whirlwind. From Ko Samui we flew back into Bangkok. From Bangkok we flew into Guangzhou, China and took a train into Hong Kong. We spent a few days in Hong Kong (GREAT CITY) and the last day we decided to check out Macau island.
From Macau back to Hong Kong, back to Guangzhou we flew into Beijing and picked up a taxi to take us to Jinshanling (about 160km outside the city). We had an amazing two days hiking the Great Wall of China from Jinshanling to Simitai, about 20 kilometers. We had read that that area of wall isn't visited too often by tourists so you can have a relatively peaceful, albeit difficult, hike. Our advisers were so correct. We had the wall to ourselves most of the time - an amazing experience.
After we returned from Simitai we spent one night in Beijing before heading to Tokyo for the weekend. With some extra airline miles we paid about 70$ USD for both of us to get there and back. And we are soooo glad we did!! Tokyo was an awesome city and the sushi was amazing! Even Jason found himself saying "I could eat a few more of those!" referencing the Ahi tuna sashimi. I couldn't believe it!! We Karaoked one night with some new found friends and found some of the great hang outs in our neighborhood, Shibuya. We had a blast.
After our few days in Japan were over we headed back to Beijing for our last Asian days. We strolled the exotic food markets and tried some scorpions!! They weren't so bad after you fry them up and put salt on them. ;)
Spending 4 weeks in Asia was a cool experience and I think we probably preferred Thailand and Japan over China, with the exception of our wall hike.
On the 29th we flew out of Beijing into South Korea to pick up our connecting flight to Sydney. We had a two hour layover so we decided to enter Seoul, have some lunch, and head back into the international terminal. It wasn't anything fancy, but it was two more stamps on our passports!!
So I am currently in a small town called Port Macquerie just a few hours north of Sydney, Australia. After a few days in Sydney (and an amazing climb to the summit of the Harbour Bridge) we started our drive toward Brisbane (locally called Brizzy) were we have plans to meet up with our friends. Sydney and all the beach parts we have seen so far certainly remind us of home. However, when you are reminded of home without any friends or family, it makes you miss it even more.
We have been talking alot about Charlie and we can't wait to see her! We hear she got a haircut and is enjoying herself.
So today is July 5th for us and Jason and I spent last night at the bar celebrating to ourselves the 4th of July. We had a good time but we have to hit the road. We are currently in a motel but will be camping the rest of the days until Brisbane. At the recommendation of a local we met in Thailand we rented a Wicked Van. Look it up, it is pretty hilarious! Our van is probably the most obnoxious van we could have gotten and was nicknamed "DHL" because of it's colors. DHL or McDonald's...either way, it is very loudly yellow with red writing. The writing being something about a nasal spray for men - a Viagra of sorts. Anyhow, I am sorry to rush you through the last few weeks in a few short paragraphs, but I didn't want to abandon my faithful followers.
