Talking Grapes

We followed the signs to Stellenbosch and quite honestly went to the first B&B/hotel/guesthouse we found. It was near the main part of town and would do just fine. The woman who greeted us also managed to get Jason and I hooked up with another group already tasting. The guide would come 30 minutes later and 40 minutes later we would be tasting wine and eating some cheese. The area of these wineries reminds me so much of Napa at home. Well, maybe not Napa, but perhaps St. Helena or Calistoga with small, quaint, wineries, good product, and homey ambience. The weather had already started changing, but today still felt like fall. The cool, crisp, clean air of fall, leaves turning and cracking under your feet, it was so perfect. I love the fall. We hit up a few different wineries, but to be honest, I only remember the one who had wine with chocolate pairings. Oh, SOOOO good. I could have stayed there all night. I brought home an international order form and the card of their agent in New York. The night would end early on my account. We had been drinking mostly beer for a while and my tolerance for wine was minimal at best. We had a café style dinner and headed back to our place and started warming up – it was getting wet and cold! Jason and I both passed out not even realizing that it was only 8 o’clock. That early sunset really plays tricks on you! Needless to say, we were up early and back on the road to Cape Town. We both spoke of how we were a little sad to already be at the end of our South African adventure, but we were both really happy that we both agreed we could have spent another day or two at every place we stopped and that left a positive note on the entire trip. Cape Town is only 45km from Stellenbosch, but already Jason and I have some errands to run. We need to find a place to fix my camera ASAP, find a place to sell his surfboard, and find a place to watch the Super 14 rugby finals with the South African Bulls – we have a busy day ahead.
